The "Lakeside" by Tryber & Sweetwater - burled walnut (1897)
built in Chicago and rebuilt and refinished here in the shop over the course of 2 years (as time allowed). This instrument was, for many years, above the Buskirk Chumley Theater - formerly the Indiana Theater - and used by the Odd Fellows Hall for many years (we were able to trace it back to the 1940's in this same location). I chose to restore it because of it's unusually beautiful case and case parts and the figurative walnut it was made of, and because the wood was not damaged but just in need of refinishing. The wood, brass, and mother of pearl inlays were also a reminder of a bygone era in which wood workers were prominent in the piano making industry. This Lakeside has a very responsive modern direct blow action, no different than the modern day Steinway vertical (or other modern day vertical) actions, and the new strings and tuning pins ensure tuning stability and a beautiful tone quality. The original ivory has been kept (and cleaned) as they all are unbroken with just a slight discoloring on several in the middle section. These can be replaced if you would like a new keyboard. The hardware is nickel (as were the Steinways of this era), and have been re-plated with polished nickel. New double rubber-wheel casters and sockets help immensly with moving the piano on a hard wood floor, and the bench (also refinished - not the original) is made of a matching burl walnut is also included.
$5,900.00 including local delivery and warranty
